Questions

Does it replace the macOS screenshot tools?

No. Keep using ⇧⌘3, ⇧⌘4 and ⇧⌘5. Linger shows whatever they save.

Why does macOS ask for folder access?

Linger reads your screenshot folder to show new captures. That’s the only folder it touches.

What is “Hide the built-in macOS thumbnail”?

Apple’s preview delays saving the file by about five seconds. Hiding it makes captures reach Linger instantly. Same switch as Screenshot.app → Options → Show Floating Thumbnail.

Is it safe to install?

Linger is signed with a Developer ID and notarized by Apple, so it opens like any other Mac app. It’s open source, so you can read exactly what it does.

Which Macs?

macOS 13 and later, Apple silicon and Intel.

Does it phone home?

No. No network code, no analytics, no accounts. Read the source.
